A Slight Mishap

Don't look too closely otherwise you'll see that my bird is unraveling at the head! Bird brains! AUGHHHH! I have wanted to stitch this little thing since I first saw it. Unfortunately, while turning this little bird right side out, I poked the turning tool (chop stick) right through the fabric. There is really no way to fix my poor bird. The fabric called for has a really loose weave. Being the sewer that I am, I did hear a little voice saying "iron on some featherweight interfacing". Did I do that???? Did I listen to that voice? NO! Of course not. I only listen to that voice when it says, "It's margarita time"! I should have listened. I'm not going to get crazy about it though. It didn't take long to stitch and I found a tighter weave fabric in my stash, so I'll give it another whirl. Of course, I didn't mention that it took me three times to stitch this darned thing right, I kept miscounting.

But I shall not complain. I'll just wait a little bit before trying it again. As my daughter would say, "Save the drama for your mama!" This is one of her favorite sayings and last week while in the mall, what do I see??? That's right - a shirt with the saying on it! Did I ever mention that my daughter is a drama queen? Yep, almost 12 years and the world is full of a lot of drama. You know how those 'tweens are!

Other than the mishap with my poor bird, the weekend was great and the weather even better! Hope everyone had a great weekend too!

Oh no Deb... bird brains!! I love that little birdie. Glad you found another piece of fabbie and you'll try him again though. He is so cute. Lovin' that 'drama for your mama' shirt. I know Catie's almost 12, but geez that makes me feel old. :) Makes me wanna go stash shopping to get over my pain. lol

Oh dear on your poor bird! Don't you hate when that happens? I hope the second one comes out without mishap. :D And that shirt -- pretty cute! Those 12 year olds can definitely be drama queens -- I remember! lol!

Such a shame about your little birdie - maybe you should make him a little hat or better still some hair!

Sorry about the lil birdie's mishap...although I must say, it is neat the way it is, kinda like a special find at a flea market, well loved, etc!!

ROFLOL about the bird brains!! I go with Jan's comment--I'd say that it's a well loved flea market find and leave it at that. Or blame it on your kids. LOL at your daughter's shirt! My 18 year old has said that I'm allowed to say that she's "dramatic but don't say demanding". LOL Yeah, suurre...

Bird Brains - - - love it!!! Could you not give it a comb over so it looks like the head of a woodpecker or hoopoe or cockerel :)
But it looks so cute as it is.
Stash + Organising...do those two words really go together?

OMG bird brains! LOL! Could it be saved by stitching around the edges in a fashion similar to the Stacy Nash Primitives heart that I've been seeing (and drooling over) all around blogland?

The DD's teeshirt is priceless.

It's just BIRD BRAINS as you said. He is obviously very very smart - in fact so smart that his brains are exploding from his head and I wouldn't redo it at all. Just love him for what her is and I decided it had to be a him because only a him would have their brains exploding from their head. Lots of Love Patti xxx

Hmmm ... bird brains. Sounds like what my head is filled with! How about a hat on the bird? Oh, now that I'm reading the comments, I see I'm not the first to think of that fix.

Organize and stash ... two incompatible terms in my bird brain.

Ah Deb, the exact same thing happened to me in the weekend. After knocking myself over the head for a bit, I decided to attach a cord to the sides, and the problem was solved. But with your bird being all prim, I suppose a cord is out of the question. Poor fellow. I really like him.

Oh, so sorry about your bird! It's hard to get stuffed turned without poking a hole through. You may end up being happier with the tighter weave anyway though!

How funny, and yet so sad for that poor bird to have his brains exploding like that.... I like Diane's suggestion to do some primitive X stitches all around him. I think that would make him look very prim and old!

Organization? Huh?????

He is such a cute little bird and I agree with the suggestion to do some little prim stitches around him. It would be very in keeping and solve your dilema as well.

Okay, here's the REAL STORY! Get or make a little stuffed cat to sit next to your injured bird and the answer to what happened is obvious! The cat did it! :)

Bird brains! What a hoot, Deb! In my house they wouldn't have noticed that at all, but they would have commented on the oil can up its underbelly. I think the pinkeep it totally charming the way it is.

Oh, Deb! I'm so sorry about the bird! Can you turn it right side out, and try pulling the threads back inside and adding a little fray check? Or how about adding some sort of trim to his head so he has a "comb" up there?
Stitching it again would probably be the easiest, but I'm feeling your pain!
Love the shirt. I've never heard that saying, but I love it!
Have a great day and listen to that inner voice!

Poor little birdie, lol. But this has happened to me as well, and not only once. It's good that you will try him again as he's so beautiful.
Cute T-shirt!

I know it's not funny..I've done that myself. Poor bird. Put a hat on him!

Hi Deb - thanks for visiting my blog! I love your little birdie, brainless or not! I really want to make some cute birds for my house.

I love the idea of bird brains! And in this crafty/shabby chic world, I would leave the bird just as he is! Ooo! Maybe embroider little worms coming out, and call it "the worms' revenge!"

Doesn't that make you mad. It is a right pain in the you know where when something goes wrong after all your hard work. It looks lovely though = Sandra.

So you're a Stacy Nash fan too !
Did you try to put some glue ( for fabric of course) on your bird ?
Thanks for your comment ;o)
