In Sponge Bob Land

I had a pretty productive week for once. I was selfish. Yes, a mom who got a little selfish. I decided that this was "ME" week. I went back to bed after I got the DH and kids out of the door in the morning, made minimal dinners, had a manicure and pedicure and did what I wanted. I know I'll pay for this at some point, but it's been so good. Oh yeah, no cleaning either! What's a little dirt once in a while, right? (actually, I did a little bit this morning just because I felt guilty). LOL

I managed to get both some stitching and quilting done this week! Woo Hoo! It was wonderful! Anyway, all this week, while working on Block 2 of Shores (still not quite done), this song kept going through my head. I'm sure that most of you have heard it, especially if you have kids. I kept praying that I'd get this block finished so that the sounds in my head would go away. You probably know the lyrics, "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?" "SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS!!!" UGHHHH! It's been driving me crazy!!

I was going to go digging around for a Sponge Bob character type item that I'm sure was given away at McDonalds, Burger King, or one of those places that is sure to give our kids heart attacks by the time they're 25 to accompany this pic, but thought I'd spare you. Going through closets would also remind me that I need to weed out the kid's closets instead of stitching! Anyway, I'm hoping to finish off this block today and then maybe the crazy sounds will go out of my head. Oh yeah, and when I was putting in the seahorse, my daughter started making these "WEE SCHNAW" noises. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what she was doing. Well, she informed me that is the noise that seahorses make. At least they do in Spongebob land! Go figure!

I also got a little quilting done - something that has been low on the priority list for quite a while.

Just four blocks (although I actually am working on eight more, but they're not done), but I think I'm off to a good start. This quilt is king-sized though so I think it's going to take me a while. But it actually felt great to hear the hum of the old sewing machine and my favorite tunes playing in the background.

I'm still debating what my next start will be once I get this block done. I was tempted to go to Block 3, but it doesn't have to be done until the end of April (according to my self imposed stitching schedule). I think I'm leaning towards an A&E sampler, but we'll see what happens. I'm debating between the one by The City Stitcher or a smaller one I found in my stash. Which reminds me too, I need to put in some stitches on the CHS A&E. Then I've also been enabled by some great WIP pictures of seen of the This is the Day sampler! I think I'm as happy as a hog in you-know-what with all these projects. Perhaps another mom's week is in order!!!

Thanks again for all your comments and have a great weekend!

Deb, you tickle me!! I love your accomplishments, they look so lovely. And a 'do only what you want week' is definitely a must have sometimes!

Oh No! Now I'm going to be singing that dreaded song! (LOL) Good for you taking a "me" break! I so need one of those. A manicure, and pedicure! I'm sure you were in heaven.
The quilt is beautiful! I hope that you have more time to sew on the old machine. It's so fun for a break from stitching, isn't it?
Thank you so much for posting on my blog. We do have similar tastes. It's very fun to chat and learn from people that share similar interests.
I need to get going on my "shores" project. You have passed me up now, and I want to at least be on the same block as you!
I am going to post my instructions on how I do machine applique. It's funny, but I don't like to applique by hand very much. I learned this method a couple of years ago, and it cuts the time down significantly. If you feel like starting "Home Sweet Home" with me, it would be fun to do as a BOM. One a month should be doable right?
Have a fabulous weekend!

Woo hoo you're quilting!! Lordy, look at those little bitty pieces of fabric. YGW! Shores, too? Go Deb go. BTW, how can it be selfish to take care of you every once in a while? I love it when that happens. ;) As for the Spongebob song... well, you could have HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY stuck in your head. Aw geez! (di... really wishing she's hadn't thought of that)!!

What a great week you've had. You really should do it more often. I love what you have done both stitching wise and quilting wise. That quilt is just gorgeous - I love the color combination. Until next time Lots of Love Patti xxx

Everyone deserves a vacation week once in a while, and besides, did anyone in your house starve? No, I'll bet not!

Too funny on the Sponge Bob song (I don't think I've ever heard it (no kids), so it's not running through my head in sympathy). And the colors in that quilt are beyond gorgeous.

Oh, boy, I love a good pedicure. Moms occasionally have to pamper themselves and do what they want. If you don't do those things for yourself, they may never get done! I'm a freak for purple, so your quilt would be very happy at my house. ;) Can't wait to start on Shores.

YGG! Everybody needs to take time for themselves... I think moms, especially those who don't work outside the home, put everybody else first and need to pamper themselves sometimes. I just wonder why we feel guilty about it! I try to remind myself that giving myself a bit of time just makes me more attentive to my family & less resentful of all the repetitive chores I do, etc.

Your Shores block looks great! I'm hoping to finish the 4th block and do serious damage on the 5th this weekend. I hope I hope I hope. I keep telling DH that I need some me time, too! Oh, and I have to admit, my nickname for DH when he gets in a crabby mood is Crabby Paddy--a take off of a character or food from Sponge Bob. ROFLOL

Your quilt blocks--GORGEOUS!!!!!!

Can't wait to see what you decide to work on after your Shores block is done!

Good for you for taking some time for yourself this week. Your Shores is looking great and I love the quilt blocks. Oh boy... a king size quilt, that's a lot of blocks! LOL

Deb, that purple quilt is gorgeous and what great fabrics those are. Must be lovely to work with. I admire anyone who can do an entire quilt. I love piecing but hate the rest of it. Hmmm, need someone to finish quilts, and I'll do the piecing. And I very much admire you for taking a week for yourself. Give the family a week to recover and do it again. Enrich your soul!

Congrats on finishing your block! I'm having trouble sleeping, as I went to bed with just a small amount left to do. I couldn't stop dreaming about it, so I'm up at some unknown hour, putting in the last few stitches. Now I feel better! If I didn't have so many other unfinished projects on my goal list this month!
Thanks for the comment and the inspiration.
Have a good rest of the weekend.

We all need such a week from time to time. When I'm off work for a couple of days it's me time and I try to stay away from all the daily chores as much as possible.
You have some nice progress on Shores. And those blocks for the quilt are just wonderful, the colour range, the pattern, all.

Shores is looking LOVELY Deb! And those blocks are stunning... I love the color combination! Every mom deserves a "me" week... I think it should be a national holiday, I think. :) I make me time most nights once my little one is in bed, but I feel guilty every minute about the things around the house that I should be getting done instead of stitching (or reading, or whatever). So, here's to you, and here's hoping you're able to get another mommy week in soon!

OH Deb, that quilt is beautiful!
I remember the days of the "Barney" songs with my kids....oops telling my age now. LOL
I think that's great to take some time for yourself. Seems like you still accomplished alot and your projects are beautiful. I've been off work this week and haven't got much housework at all done.
I think getting manicure and pedicures are so relaxing......maybe I need to do that tomorrow!

I'm amazed by your quilt, it's such a cool pattern! Glad you got some me time and I'm sure your nails look fabulous! Funny about SpongeBob. We still have to watch as my college aged daughter still loves it!

Hi Deb! How could it be it's taken me so long to get here to say hi! I know you've stopped by my blog before and thank you for doing so and your comments.

What a great place! You have cross stitch and quilting on the go! Glad you had a good 'me' time. We all need it and I think it makes us better people! (tee hee, did that sound good?)

It is so good to take some time for yourself. And why not? Alittle bit dust won't kill anyone....did I mention I hate housework? LOL
The quilting looks gorgeous and I love your Shores. Perhaps you should listen to Autdio books that may make the song in your head go away. I love listening to mysteries and stuff like that while stitching but only if DH is on nightshift....

Thanks for putting all the sound effects in my head for when I start block 2...whenever that may be. I LOVEEEEEEE your quilt blocks - those colors are fantabulous. I have a log cabin hanging right behind me that I just love.

That Log Cabin is going to be GORGEOUS! I haven't tried that technique yet since I'm a beginning quilter but I can tell it's going to be stunning.
